The borough's populace was 1,211 at the time of the 2010 United States Census. The borough was titled for Irad Hawley, first president of the Pennsylvania Coal Company.
Hawley is home to a number of notable lakes, golf courses, and other recreational facilities, making it a leisure destination, especially during the summer months.
Harmony Presents - a manufacturing company bringing live music, comedy and theater to the underground theater of the Hawley Silk Mill and encircling venues. The Hawley Silk Mill - the Bellemonte historical silk foundry renovated by Peter Bohlin now features shops, boutiques, a gym, a spa, offices and a college. Hawley is positioned where Middle Creek enters the Lackawaxen River, at 41 28 42 N 75 10 45 W (41.478225, -75.179154) at an altitude of 1,033 feet (314.9 m). Hawley students attend Wallenpaupack Areas Schools, with high, middle, and major schools approximately five miles from town and positioned on the shores of Lake Wallenpaupack.
Some kindergarten kids attended school in the former Hawley High School, a WPA universal and positioned in the borough, up until a several years ago when they were transferred back to the major school.
According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the borough has a total region of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), of which, 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2) of it is territory and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) of it (3.12%) is water.
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,211 citizens , 549 homeholds, and 297 families residing in the borough.
In the borough the populace was spread out with 22.5% under the age of 18, 60.2% from 18 to 64, and 17.3% who were 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a homehold in the borough was $22,404, and the median income for a family was $33,462.
About 18.9% of families and 20.7% of the populace were below the poverty line, including 29.1% of those under age 18 and 17.1% of those age 65 or over.
