It is the home of Grove City College, a private conservative Christian liberal arts college; General Electric; Instron; USIS; and a number of small businesses.

Historically a traditional industrialized center, Grove City has produced locomotive engines, carriages, gas engines, foundry products, and motor trucks.

The close-by Grove City Premium Outlets take their name from Grove City.
